Project Description

From the classroom to the recording studio and courthouse, from the playing field to the circus and the skies above, French as a second language graduates are #WinningWithFrench.  Discover the stories of accomplished bilingual Canadians and get inspired by how bilingualism has contributed to their success!

Background

Canadian Parents for French set out to find those French second language program graduates that are winning with French, in their professional and personal lives.

With the support of Canadian Heritage, Office of Commissioner of Official Languages, and Radio Canada these graduates shared how bilingualism has enriched their lives! We discovered Olympians, journalists, business executives, teachers, engineers and pilots! Meet these French language champions from all walks of life who shared their stories.

Objectives

  • Share stories of French as a second language graduates who are living proof that bilingualism contributes to personal and professional success.
  • Inspire young students and motivate them to continue learning French.
  • Support teachers’ efforts and provide them with bilingual resources / media vignettes to motivate students.
  • Create a database of French language graduates increasing communications among bilingual like-minded Canadians.
  • Increase visibility of the impact of French second language programs and how linguistic duality positively impacts individual Canadians and our entire society.
  • Show the benefits and advantages of learning French and encourage more students to pursue FSL learning.

Results

  • Number of submissions: 535
  • Number of views of media vignettes: 9661 views
  • 47 stories recorded-so far from the Western and Atlantic provinces.
  • Stories collected from British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Filming of videos for Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Ontario and Québec is planned for 2020.
  • Original project made possible with the support of the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages, Radio-Canada and the Department of Canadian Heritage.
